|The Brazilian marks the Reds’ first arrival of the summer window.
Liverpool have had a positive season of progression under Jurgen Klopp as they reached 188bet the Champions League final and consolidated their position in the Premier League top four. However, there will now be a desire for trophies and sustained success at the top of the sport. To achieve that, another season of smart recruitment is needed to push the current squad on further.
The Reds have been quick to make progress in the transfer window, as it was announced that AS Monaco midfielder would be joining on July 1 in a deal worth more than £40 million. A further £4 million could be added based on performance-related clauses. BBC Sport suggests that his arrival is likely to be followed by the departure of Emre Can.
Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have been very successful in the transfer window and the addition of Fabinho suggests that trend will continue. Since moving into defensive midfield, he has emerged as one of the best in the position across Europe.
He played a key part in Monaco’s Ligue 1 triumph in 2017 and helped the side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. The midfielder was unlucky not to leave for a bigger club last summer, but he has bided his time and has now been rewarded with a huge transfer.
The likely departure of Emre Can meant that Liverpool needed to invest serious money into the midfield area. Naby Keita is set to join this summer, but Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum all have their deficiencies at the highest level.
It was clear against Real Madrid in the Champions League final that the Reds weren’t at an elite level in the middle of the park. The game was run by Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
Fabinho and Keita will both be at Anfield for the beginning of the new season, with both expected to walk immediately into the starting eleven. The former will be the more defensive-minded of the two and Liverpool supporters will be delighted to see a player of his profile arriving at the club.
They have needed a quality defensive midfielder for years and they have now secured one of the best. At the age of 24, he will only improve over the coming seasons.
During the start of his career, Fabinho played as a right-back and that experience has allowed him to transition nicely into a midfield role. He is combative in the middle of the park and capable of winning the ball back at will.
Last season, 188bet he averaged 1.81 successful tackles and 1.48 interceptions per ninety minutes in Ligue 1. Meanwhile, his physicality allowed him to dominate in the air as shown by his aerial duels success rate of 65.81%.
It may take him some time to adjust to English football, but he should prove to be a great fit.
Klopp demands every player to be comfortable on the ball and Fabinho is an impressive reader of the game. The Brazilian rarely gives the ball away and he picks the right pass often. His strength allows him to operate well in tight spaces.
The summer transfer window is likely to ramp up over the coming days with clubs keen to clinch deals before the World Cup.
Liverpool have made an early statement of intent with the signing of Fabinho and their supporters will be hoping that there is more to come from the club.
If this is an indication of the calibre of player the Reds will bring in this summer, they could emerge as serious title contenders for the 2018/19 season. 188bet
