The Hull-born left-back has been unable to agree terms on a new contract with the Tigers

Max Clark has almost sbo128 certainly played his final game for Hull City as the homegrown youngster prepares to pursue a fresh challenge away from the KCOM Stadium.

Clark is the last of City’s out-of-contract players yet to make a decision on his long-term future almost a month after he was offered a contract extension to remain with his boyhood club.

That proposal remains unsigned ahead of Clark’s current deal expiring in 11 days and all signals point towards him joining an exodus that has so far seen six senior players depart this summer.

City have not budged on the terms of an offer first tabled in September and without doing so over the coming days risk losing the left-back for a sum of out of their control.

Vitesse Arnhem, managed by former City boss Leonid Slutsky, continue to actively court Clark. The Dutch club are willing to exceed the Tigers’ offer to Clark and meet the compensation fee City would be able to command.

Fixed tariffs set by FIFA are in place for any player under the age of 24 moving to another country, depending on length of service and the standing of the club receiving compensation. It is understood City would stand to receive in the region of £400,000 if Clark moved to Vitesse.

City would seek £1m if a player they have schooled since the age of 14 moved to another English club and that eventually cannot be ruled out.

Nottingham Forest have held a lasting interest, while the Mail has learned Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday have also emerged as competitors for Clark’s signature.

Nigel Adkins last week left the door open for Clark to stay with City, suggesting “deep down” sbo128 the academy product did not want to leave the KCOM Stadium.

Clark’s initial preference had always been to stick with the Tigers next season and beyond but the club’s reluctance to improve their offer has pushed him towards the exit.

Adkins is braced to see Clark leave and will hope to see defensive reinforcements arrive to begin redressing the balance ahead of pre-season training next week.

Eric Lichaj continues to top the wish-list for a new right-back and interest in Nedum Onuoha has been crystallised by tabling a firm contract offer for the free agent.

Onuoha, who was released by QPR at the end of last season, is keen on a move to the north of England and the defender’s experience appeals to Adkins.

Bolton Wanderers are also reportedly interested in the 31-year-old defender but City would likely have the greater financial muscle over their Championship rivals. sbo128
